Rick Owens Stefan Cargo Shorts
Button fly shorts, coated black cotton with that slight waxed sheen, catching light unevenly across the surface. Belt loops sit around the waist like a regular pair of shorts, but then these huge winged cargo pockets stick out on both hips, way bigger than a standard patch pocket, almost flaring outward from the body.
Hem’s left raw, frayed threads showing at the bottom of each leg instead of a clean stitched finish.
Quick Specs
- Button fly, belt loops at waist
- Oversized winged cargo pockets, both hips
- Raw frayed hem
- Coated matte-black cotton
- Straight leg, above-knee length
Those Pockets
Pockets are the whole story here, oversized and rounded, sticking out past the hip line rather than sitting flat against the shorts. Gives the fit a bulkier silhouette through the hip area even though the rest of the shorts stay fairly fitted.
The Coating
Fabric’s got a waxed or coated finish, not fully glossy but enough sheen to look different from plain cotton twill. Holds a slightly stiff structure, which is probably what’s letting those pockets hold their shape and flare out the way they do.
Fit Through the Leg
Straight through the thigh, no taper, ends at the frayed hem right above the knee. Regular waist construction otherwise, button and zip fly like a standard pair of shorts, nothing unusual there.
Keep the top simple given how much is going on with the pockets, a plain Rick Owens Shirt works fine. Rick Owens Boots suit the coated, rougher texture better than sneakers would.
Care
- Wash cold, inside out
- No bleach
- Hang dry to preserve the coating
- Skip the iron, heat can affect the coated finish
- Fraying may increase slightly with washing, this is normal
